kasadya art exhibit

negrense colors by aki cortes

more than forty beautiful artworks from the art association of bacolod–negros are currently exhibited at the gsis museum in pasay city. “kasadya”, the exhibit's title, which means festive in bacolod dialect, features paintings from twenty nine bacoleƱo artists who have produced works about the masskara festival, the environment and their recent arte kalye as part of the month-long celebration of the arts last february.
we were able to meet four of the artists who are participating in the exhibit.

joan Honoridez, or joan of art, was the overall curator who gave us a glimpse of their story. she is a graduate of bachelor of law and worked as a legal researcher. she lends her legal background to help out aab-negros, as their secretary, the group that caters to her passion for painting. her subject is mostly of everyday people, dancers and landscapes. she is also keen on using the latest media for painting like the one she has come across: water-soluble oils. she uses her maiden name to give honor to her parents from who she inherited her innate artistic talent from.

sony Golez took up fine arts at the philippine women’s university and practiced interior design. she has now gone back to her first love, painting, and is an active member of the aab-negros as the vice president. sShe does mostly impressionist landscapes and human figures, using basically paint media but infuses some other materials.

mark maquimay is a graduate of fine arts in la consolacion college in bacolod city. he joined the aab-negros in 2007 and has since been actively sharing his works with the group. hHis artworks are mostly abstract and surrealist in oil and acrylic.

bea ivanica mocorro is the youngest active member of the association. sShe developed her creative gift by emulating her mom, joan honoridez, and made use of pencils, pastels, watercolor, acrylic, oil, mixed media, everyday objects, even woodcarving and, recently, printmaking. She has been actively painting and exhibiting since she was 9 years old, not only in bacolod but also in cebu and manila. she is now 12 years old. in september 2009, she and her mother held a mother-and-child show entitled "mag-iloyu" (mag-ina) in makati.

kasadya exhibit
will be the first of its kind in the history of aab-negros, under the the very able leadership of nune lucio alvarado, exhibiting their members’ artworks outside their province. his heart has always been for the development and exposure of the bacoleno artists, to a wider audience as they deserve. this show is the beacon of alvarado’s dream. this has been made possible with the help of the national commission for culture and the arts. their honored guests for the ceremonial ribbon cutting are ms. kimee santiago, daughter of the late cartoonist ely santiago, also was a member of the association; ms. mylene narciso-urriza of the ncca and ms. antonia aracama-delos santos, 1986 miss bacolod.

the show will open on march 22, monday, at 6:00pm and will run until april 12. you may contact this number for inquiries: (0928) 521-3190. everyone is invited to come.

we would like to thank joan honoridez for our exclusive coverage of their event's preparation. this blog post is dedicated to her and to all the talented artists of bacolod city.
